BASIC NEEDS OF THE ELDERLY CARE

For proper geriatric assessment should be identified the problems that the geriatric patient might have that will alter their daily lives and therefore cause a breach of the basic needs.

These needs are served through the process of care on geriatric and gerontological nursing which rationing, plans and provisionig of care.

To achieve this it will be followed a series of steps: objectives, assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation. Being at the stage of assessment where it will be highlighted the 14 main needs of the patient.

These needs are based on the 14 Virginia Henderson needs, which are:

1. Breathe normally.
2. Eat and drink properly.
3. Remove from all routes.
4. Move and maintain proper posture.
5. Sleep and rest.
6. Choose appropriate clothing, dressing and undressing.
7. Maintain body temperature.
8. Body hygiene and maintain the integrity of the skin.
9. Avoid environmental hazards.
10. Communicate with others.
11. Act according to their own faith.
12. Conduct activities with a sense of self.
13. Act in recreational activities.
14. Learning.

The assessment by nurses of these requirements will have the same objective, achieve maximum independence for the patient.

To end, I support these claims through this article that concludes with "Time used in geriatric nursing assessment is a necessary investment to ensure adequate assistance and quality, since it represents a useful working tool for nurses and the rest of the center's multidisciplinary team, enabling individualizing care, disability quantify and provide the level of care most appropriate to each resident."
