Gerontology:
defined as interdisciplinary science that studies aging and old age concerning
biopsychosocial aspects, since these have a direct influence on the way the man

Geriatrics:
is a medical specialty about the study of the prevention, diagnosis, treatment
and rehabilitation of diseases in the elderly. Peter Paul Rubens 1610-1615.
The elderly
have more diseases and less able to recover, so its symptoms are more atypical
and must be observed more.
In the same
way nursing develops several functions
as: social, agency, teaching and research.
The complex
nature of geriatric care requires the collaboration of several health
professionals, so geriatric care involves biological, psychological, social and
economic influences. Within the medical team are: doctors, nursings,
physiotherapists, occupationals therapists, nutritionis and social workers.
Geriatric
team members need to have several qualities: to be skilled with the elderly and
their families, flexible and positive attitude.
Where can
nursing act? primary care, home visits, day hospital, tertiary hospital , nursing homes , old people home and residence.
